Meet Kevin Amico, Our Award Winning New Home Consultant

While American West Homes can speak volumes on their own, we also have a dynamic team that makes our company really stand out. One of those team members is New Home Consultant, Kevin Amico. He uses his unique approach to sales to help our home buyers find their dream homes.

Kevin has worked for American West for more than 17 years. He is, in fact, the second generation from his family to work here. His father was a member of our team for 24 years! Kevin is currently working at our Jones Crossing community in Coronado Ranch.

After many years in the business, Kevin recently received one of the highest honors in Southern Nevada. He is the winner of the Silver Nugget Sales Person of the Year Award given by the Southern Nevada Homebuilders Association.

He is so honored to have earned such a prestigious award. “It was the first time I was nominated, and I won,” Kevin says. “This is kind of a big deal. If you’re going to win an award, this is the one you want to win!”

Kevin attributes his success in new home sales to his “old school thinking. I treat people how they want to be treated. I follow up, and keep coming back to them. If someone walks through the door, I feel that I’m doing them a disservice if I can’t help them find a home.”

“My favorite part of my job as a New Home Consultant is teaching people how to own their own home and make their dream come true.

“One of the best things about working at American West is that they let me be my own boss, and do my own thing. They’re so supportive and family-oriented. They believe a lot in family, and so do I.

In his free time, Kevin spends his time with his wife of 20 years and two children. He also has a boat, which he takes out on Lake Mead and on the Colorado River in Laughlin.

Come meet Kevin at our Jones Crossing community!

How To Make Your New House Feel Like “Home”

Moving is stressful, whether it’s around the corner or across the country. Getting settled in and making your new house feel like home is always a priority. No matter how quickly you start the process, though, it takes a while for the new space to feel like it’s yours. Here are some tips for making things feel like “home” a little more quickly.

Sort out the closets and dressers first. Not being able to find your fleecy PJs or a favorite sweater, much less underwear, socks and shoes, will only make things rougher in the morning.

Stick to your routines. Especially if you have kids. If possible, set things up like they were in your old house – coat and/or key hooks, the cereal station, laundry baskets. Keep to bedtimes, and any other routines – like Sunday pancakes or nightly walks.

Make it smell like home. Scent is our strongest sense. It immediately transports us – and can be instantly comforting. So, if your old house smelled like bread, start baking! Or if you have a favorite scented candle, light it up. At the very least, buy some fresh cut flowers. Never underestimate the effect of freesia, lavender or lilies.

Make it sound like home. Your favorite tunes wafting through your new halls will also help make the space feel more familiar. And putting area rugs down on the floor will help kill the hollowness you might be experiencing. Open the windows so you can hear the sounds of your new neighborhood.

Fix up the kid’ rooms before you do the rest of the house. They’re going to be feeling out of sorts, so letting them unpack and set up their rooms will make them feel happier and more secure. Plus, you’ll have a safe place for them to hang while you’re trying to sort everything else out.

Don’t forget the outside! It may seem nuts when you have a million other things to do, but you’ll see. Hang a wreath on the door, plant some flowers in a pot on the porch, set up the patio furniture. You’ll feel more welcome when you come home, and your neighbors will see that you care about your home’s “face”.

Putting one of our stars in the spotlight… Meet David Meeks!

American West’s dynamic team is why we have been able to hold the reputation for not only the Best Built Homes in American but also Southern Nevada’s Number One Homebuilder since 1984. Each and every member of our team plays a crucial part to our commitment to excellence.

One of these incredible team members is New Home Sales Consultant, David Meeks. He uses his years of experience to help put homebuyers at ease while they find their dream homes.

David has worked for American West since 2007, and has been the recipient of the Dream Maker Award for sales, as well as the American West Ambassador Award twice in recognition of his work ethic, attitude, and representation of American West. This award is unique because it is not given to recognize sales. Rather it is given to someone who is a true ambassador for American West.

As David says, “I love helping people. I try to be a real person rather than a sales person, looking at the process from their point of view. I try to give them good information so they can make a decision, and show them the benefits of buying an American West home.

“My favorite part of my job as a sales consultant is giving people their house keys. Buyers are so happy when they get their keys… they cry because they are so happy!

“I love working at American West. It is a fantastic, family-owned company that really cares about its buyers and its employees. We’re building so much more than just quality homes here.”

On his days off, David spends his time with his wife and family. He also loves music, and play guitar in a band. (FYI… David’s co-workers say that while he won’t brag about his talents, they will! And they say he’s a very talented musician!)

When asked what his greatest achievement is to date, he replied, “Meeting my wife – and marrying her!”

You can meet David at our Jones Crossing neighborhood located in Coronado Ranch. He would love to help make your dream of a new home come true.

How Do You Become America’s #1 Homebuilder?

Since the day this company was founded, American West Homes has been committed to excellence. It’s a simple philosophy, but one that has allowed American West to become one of the most successful, privately owned homebuilders in the nation.

American West originated with Larry Canarelli, a man who has devoted himself to building new homes with the highest standards and integrity for the families of Las Vegas. Home by home, he built our reputation as “The Best Built Homes in America.” He puts his heart and soul into every home we build.

Since starting American West in 1984, Larry has pledged our commitment to great design, quality construction, superior craftsmanship, excellent customer care, exceptional locations and community involvement. Many companies build homes, but few are as committed to improving the quality of life for the people who live in them as we are. We design and construct homes and neighborhoods that exceed expectations for every aspect of living – comfort, lifestyle, convenience, quality and innovation.

Over 18,000 of our homeowners have experienced the American West Difference for themselves. This “difference” – cutting edge design and quality, unmatched value, the best locations, well-planned communities and the newest amenities – it is what sets American West apart from other homebuilders.

In recognition for this level of dedication, American West has received over 200 national and local awards for design and construction excellence, and is the only builder in the nation to have been awarded the industry’s most coveted ACE AWARD (Award for Construction Excellence) honor twice.

So, the answer to the question “How do you become America’s #1 homebuilder?” is… You need to have an unequaled commitment to total excellence; a leader with a vision and a dedicated team that is devoted to the city where we all live and to each and every one of our homeowners; and a dedication to giving our homebuyers the best value, locations, and features. As the American West family continues to grow, we look forward to continuing to make new home dreams come true for Las Vegas families!

Tips for Making Your Move a Little Easier

Moving can be a monumental task, but some forethought and organization leading up to moving day can help make it less stressful.

  1. Purge closets. Clean out drawers and cupboards. Get rid of stuff that you don’t want or need to move.
  2. Notify schools and medical practices that you are moving; arrange for records to be transferred if necessary.
  3. Cancel subscriptions; complete change of address forms; notify employers and insurance providers of new address, etc.
  4. Hire professional movers. Enjoy having someone experienced handle delicate or heavy items, pack them properly and transport them safely.
  5. Alert utility companies to disconnect services the day after you move.
  6. Arrange for transportation for dogs, cats, birds, etc.
  7. Keep kids’ favorite items close by. Pack them in an easily accessible place. Though you may be tempted to get rid of a ratty blanket or stuffed animal, don’t do it now.
  8. On Moving Day, dress for comfort. Pockets are good for keeping small, valuable items safe. If your ID/wallet is in your pocket, you know where it is at all times. If you have heavy boots, wear them. Remember to leave a sweatshirt or jacket unpacked. After a long day, being cold is the last thing you want.
  9. When the moving truck arrives at the new house, station the children in their new rooms (so they are out of the way), unless they are big enough to actually help. Tell them not to unpack anything until the furniture is in their room and they have a place to put their clothes.
  10. Pack an overnight bag with changes of clothing (include sleepwear and underwear), and toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant), plus towels and washcloths for cleaning up.
  11. Stock up on fruit, nuts, and granola bars since they require no refrigeration, no preparation, and no utensils. Don’t forget bottled water, juices, tea bags.
  12. Make sure you have essential paper supplies. You do not want to be digging through boxes looking for toilet paper, paper towels, and tissues.

10 Ways to Bring Even More Happiness Into Your Home

“Home.” A small word that means a great many things. It’s a peaceful refuge, a place to crash after a long day. It’s where you and your loved ones live. It’s a sense of security, comfort and most importantly happiness.

Here are some ways to bring more happiness into your home.

  1. Cultivate family time. Invest your time in having positive family experiences at home, by playing games, reading books and watching movies.
  2. Cut your clutter. Clutter is excessive stimuli, telling your brain that things still need to be done. Increase your happiness by de-cluttering.
  3. Surround yourself with happy memories. Display things that make you think of good times. Photos of your family, photos or souvenirs from a favorite vacation, your child’s artwork, or photos of your beloved pet(s). Instant bliss.
  4. Treat yourself. Keep dark chocolate around. It’s an immediate mood booster – and it’s full of anti-oxidants.
  5. Vanilla. Chocolate’s flip side is apparently a great mood elevator, too. So go ahead and light up a vanilla scented candle after a long day — it’ll help you chill out.
  6. Get good sleep. People who sleep well feel better – and happier. Keep your bedroom as a restful place, dark and cool and neat.
  7. Don’t forget to say hello, and goodbye, and I love you. Everyone is busy, but it doesn’t take long to acknowledge that someone has come home or is going out. Tell someone you missed them or love them.
  8. Go green. Studies show that people who garden or take care of houseplants have lower stress levels. Growing plants – indoors or out – gives you an immediate connection to the world.
  9. Furry friends. This one’s a no-brainer. Research has found that pets provide meaningful support for owners, helping them with social isolation and ultimately improving their lives. In other words, having a pet makes us happy!
  10. Create an outdoor oasis. Whether it’s a comfy chair by the pool or a hammock slung between two trees, give yourself a place to look up at the sky and enjoy the simple pleasures of life.
